Our Story
The Scotsman was established in 2014 by its current owner Ashley Scott, together with family friends John Hides of Yesterdays Piano Bar and La Manga Club Hyatt Piano Bar fame and Micky Imrie, former manager of The Last Drop. The name The Scotsman was a slight play on words stemming from the pub’s long-standing former name «The Sportsman», Ashley’s surname, and a nod to Micky’s Scottish heritage!
Fast forward to 2016 when the opportunity to acquire «The Bellaluz Café» on the opposite side of the square presented itself, which was promptly converted into the Angelo’s Pizzeria side of the business with the help of Sister-in-Law Michelle Wall (who you may know from La Barra & Dante’s Pizzeria) which was followed a year later with the acquisition of next door neighbor’s «The First Drop».
Today Ashley is excited to be overseeing the next big chapter in The Scotsman’s development with the help of some incredible talent on the team both front and back of house.
We strive to make the next 10 years of The Scotsman as magical as the last. With great food, service, entertainment, memories made, new friendships forged and old ones renewed.
More about us
Some customers may remember Ashley in his youth as a waiter at ‘Shakers Bar’ mainly wandering around the square and forgetting people’s drinks orders! Amazing to think he can still be found wandering around the same square 15 years later forgetting people’s drink orders! But he has improved slightly with practice we’re pleased to report.
